Hunting is the primary way for any pack to sustain itself and prevent wolves from leaving due to starvation. There are several aspects to hunting, but the most important to keep track of are the hunting party's stats in relation to their roles, wolf role proficiency, and hunting party synergy. There is no limit to how many hunters a pack may have, but the number of hunting parties able to hunt at once is determined by territory size.

Roles and Stats[]

There are five different roles that must be filled in a hunting party - 1 Stalker, 3 Chasers, 1 Finisher - but one does not need 5 wolves to fill all 5 hunting party roles. One wolf can fill multiple roles in a party, which is helpful to new players. However, each role that a wolf fills will take up 20% of their energy, for a maximum expenditure of 100% of their energy if they take on all 5 roles. A wolf has the opportunity to take part in 10 hunts a day, and may be injured or contract various illnesses or maladies while hunting.

  • The Stalker requires high Smarts and Wisdom.
  • Chasers require high Agility and Speed.
  • The Finisher requires high Strength.

Proficiency[]

The more a wolf hunts, the more proficient (better at hunting) they will become at the role they’ve been placed in, this will increase hunting success. A wolf can be proficient in more than one hunting role, but will only gain proficiency for the first role they are assigned to. For example, if they are assigned as a stalker and a chaser, they will only gain stalking proficiency.

Proficiency also is important in terms of snake quests, as the higher proficiency a hunting party has the more likely that the snake quest snake will ask for more successful hunts if he asks for a certain number of successful hunts. The maximum number of successful hunts the quest snake will ask for is 10 hunts.

Synergy[]

Hunting party synergy, which also contributes to success, increases the more often a specific party hunts together, and will decrease by a small margin every day. A wolf will generally gain 1 synergy during a hunt, but has a chance to gain two. Party synergy is calculated between all wolves in a group in the following manner where ‘WS’ equals Wolf Synergy.

(WS + WS + WS + WS + WS)/# of hunters = Party Synergy

Synergy will change when a wolf is added or removed from a party. As such, and in example, a hunting party of two that have high synergy together will have decreased synergy if another party member is added.

One should also take note of the personalities of wolves in a hunting party, as clashing characteristics may cause arguments mid-hunt, which can result in a loss of prey and injury for one or more of the wolves that had the disagreement.

You can test for clashing personalities at the Personality Snake; when testing for clashing personalities at the personality snake, the snake will either tell you that there are no disagreements, or tell you which wolves’ personalities clash:

As of Beta, Aggressive wolves and Friendly wolves don’t get along, and Romantic wolves and Stoic wolves don’t get along, but this may change to become more nuanced in the future.

Prey Items[]
